Saser Expedition Masiff

Info

Saser Kangri is a group of high mountains located in the eastern part of the Karakoram range, in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, India. The name “Saser Kangri” means “Yellow Peak” in the local Ladakhi language—”Saser” means yellow and “Kangri” means snow-covered peak. This mountain group has five main peaks: Saser Kangri-I (7672 meters), Saser Kangri-II (7518 meters), Saser Kangri-III (7495 meters), Saser Kangri-IV (7416 meters), and Plateau Peak (7287 meters).

Saser Kangri is considered one of the toughest peaks to climb in India, with the first successful ascent of Saser Kangri-I made in 1973 by an Indian team. Until 2012, Saser Kangri-II was the second highest mountain in the world that had never been climbed. Because of its sensitive location, only joint expeditions approved by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and the Ministry of Home Affairs are allowed. Independent foreign expeditions are not permitted in this region.

This group of mountains offers a unique mix of natural beauty, challenging climbs, and cultural significance in the remote, rugged land of Ladakh, making it a respected destination for experienced mountaineers.
