Day 1 Arrival in Leh, Gear Check & Evening Walk
Arrive in Leh (3,500 m) and transfer to the hotel on a sharing basis. Use the day for rest, a detailed gear check, and an easy evening acclimatization walk around the Leh market and nearby viewpoints.
Day 2 Acclimatization & Expedition Briefing
Spend the day acclimatizing in and around Leh with a short hike to a nearby viewpoint such as Shanti Stupa or Leh Palace. In the afternoon, attend a comprehensive expedition briefing covering route details, safety protocols, technical gear usage, and summit strategy.
Day 3 Leh to Hamurjha (3,550 m), Trek to Sara
Drive from Leh along the Indus and Zanskar rivers, crossing iconic landmarks before entering the Markha Valley road head near Hamurjha From Hamurjha, begin a gentle trek along the Markha Valley trail to reach Sara village, where you camp for the night.
Day 4 Sara to Umlung
Trek through classic Markha Valley scenery, passing mani walls, small settlements, and cultivated fields. Reach Markha village and camp near the river, enjoying views of the surrounding barren peaks and village life.
Day 5 Umlung to Thochungste
Follow the trail deeper into the valley, crossing wooden bridges and grazing pastures as the landscape becomes more rugged. Arrive at Hankar, a small, picturesque settlement, and camp with the first distant glimpses of the Kang Yatse massif.
Day 6 Thochungtse to Basecamp (4,500–5,100 m)
Climb gradually through meadows and high-altitude grazing grounds with widening views of snow-clad peaks. Reach the wide pastureland of Nimaling, one of the most beautiful high camps in Ladakh, and camp with Kang Yatse towering above.
Day 7 Rest, Training & Acclimatization at Base Camp
Use this day for active acclimatization, short hikes, and detailed training on technical gear such as crampons, ice axe, harness, and roping systems. Your leader will finalize rope teams, discuss contingency plans, and review the summit push strategy.
Day 8 Summit Kang Yatse II (approx. 6,250 m) & Return to Base Camp
Begin the summit push around midnight or early pre-dawn hours, ascending over scree, snow slopes, and glaciated sections with roped-up teams. Reach the summit of Kang Yatse II for expansive views of the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges, then descend carefully back to Base Camp for the night.
Day 9 Contingency / Rest Day at Base Camp
Keep this day as a buffer for bad weather, additional acclimatization, or to manage any delays on the Kang Yatse II summit climb. If not used as a buffer, this day serves as a rest and recovery day before moving higher towards Kang Yatse I.
Day 10 Base Camp to Kang Yatse Camp I (5430m)
Move from Base Camp towards the steeper flank of Kang Yatse I, negotiating boulders, moraine, and snow slopes. Establish High Camp at a suitable site, review safety procedures, and prepare for the more technical summit attempt.
Day 11 Camp 1 to Summit Camp (5700m) of Kang Yatse I
Move from Summit Camp towards the steeper flank of Kang Yatse I, negotiating boulders, moraine and snow slopes. Establish High Camp at a suitable site, review safety procedures, and prepare for the more technical summit attempt.
Day 12 Summit Kang Yatse I (approx. 6,400 m) & Return to Base Camp
Start the climb in the early hours, tackling sustained steep sections that may require fixed rope, front-pointing, and careful footwork. From the throne-shaped summit of Kang Yatse I, enjoy stunning views of Stok Kangri, Dzo Jongo, and distant Karakoram peaks before descending back to Base Camp.
Day 13 Buffer Day for Kang Yatse I
Use this additional buffer day in case of unfavorable weather, delayed summit attempt, or extra rest required after the climb. If the expedition is running on schedule, the day can be used for recovery and exploration around Base Camp.
Day 14 Base Camp to Nimaling, Trek to Chokdo / Road Head, Drive to Leh
Descend from Base Camp back to Nimaling and further down towards the road head via Kongmaru La or the standard exit route.
From the road head near Chokdo, drive back to Leh and check into the hotel for a much-deserved hot shower and celebratory dinner.
Day 15 Buffer Day
Use this additional buffer day in case of unfavorable weather, delayed summit attempt, or extra rest required after the climb. If the expedition is running on schedule, the day can be used for recovery and exploration around Base Camp.
Day 16 Departure from Leh
Check out from the hotel after breakfast. Transfer to Leh airport for your onward journey, carrying memories of a successful dual 6000 m summit expedition.
